There are rumors of financial trouble for the campaign of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson, after news that she closed down several offices and pulled TV advertisements.

The campaign confirmed Monday that it was closing an undisclosed number of field offices, especially in southern Indiana, and combining operations with the Barack Obama presidential campaign, 6News' Norman Cox reported.

While some politicos said the move meant the campaign was running out of funds, Long Thompson called it a reallocation of resources.

"It does involve identifying Democratic voters and getting them to the polls on Election Day. I think it makes a lot more sense for us not to duplicate that particular effort in my campaign," she said.

The Long Thompson camp also canceled several days of scheduled TV advertising Friday, pulling an ad that played off of incumbent Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels' RV1. Tuesday, campaign officials said it wouldn't be showing any more commercials for at least a week.

Campaign officials claim that was always the plan since they said the ad had been so popular, but some analysts questioned the move.

"This is very unusual for someone who is within 57 or 58 days of an election," said 6News political contributor Jennifer Wagner. "This is the time when you want to be spending more money, the time when you want to have more television ads and the time when you want to have more people in the field, and she's doing the exact opposite. So, I'm going to go with this is a very bad sign for November."

Long Thompson on Monday disputed several recent polls showing Daniels with a double-digit lead in the race. She said her own polls show a much closer contest, but told Cox she would not release those numbers.

She also again criticized Daniels for using a state airplane to travel to political events.

Daniels' spokeswoman Jane Jankowski said the campaign pays for trips if Daniels is traveling "solely" to attend a political event. But she said Daniels' political speeches occurred on days he had other state business in the area.

Long Thompson said she wants Daniels' office to turn over plane-usage records within 48 hours.
