Delayed Property Tax Bills Pushed Back Again

Bills May Not Be Mailed Until November

Homeowners in Marion County won't have to worry about paying their property tax bills for at least another month.

The 2008 bills supposed to be mailed out this month likely won't be mailed out until November, 6News' Norman Cox reported.

Marion County Treasurer Mike Rodman blamed a computer glitch and a misunderstanding with township assessors on the delay. Assessors apparently didn't know that they needed to have information on mobile homes in by September, Rodman said.

If the bills are ready by the third week in October, they'll be mailed then, Rodman said. But if they're not ready until the fourth week, he won't mail them until after the election.

"From a very personal standpoint, I'm not sure that I want people getting a bill [with my name on it] in their Monday night's mail and then they go and vote on Tuesday," Rodman said.

Whenever homeowners get their bills, they will have 30 days to pay them, Rodman said. Those bills will be the first of two for 2008. The second bill is scheduled to be mailed out about four months after the first.
