Dennie Oxley Involved In Crawford County Crash

ENGLISH, Ind. -- Dennie Oxley, who ran for lieutenant governor on the Democratic ticket last year, was arrested Friday night after he was involved in a traffic crash in which he was believed to have been drinking.Oxley, 38, also a former state representative, was arrested in Crawford County on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person.Oxley struck a parked car in the town of Taswell, said Crawford County Chief Deputy Andy Beals. His blood-alcohol level was at least twice Indiana's legal limit of 0.08 percent, police said.
Police said Oxley was not hospitalized and was later released from the county jail. Beals declined to discuss details of Oxley's arrest, including his exact blood-alcohol content level."Right now the sheriff says that he doesn't want to release any more information until the official charges are brought by the prosecutor," he said.Oxley said in a statement Monday that he "made an error in judgment" but expressed relief that no one was injured in the crash."I know that I have let folks down. I simply want them to know that I will work every day to earn back their confidence," his statement said.Oxley is scheduled to make a court appearance in Crawford County on Thursday.Oxley gave up his seat in the Statehouse to be Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson's running mate.That ticket lost in a landslide as Gov. Mitch Daniels won re-election.Oxley's father, also named Dennie Oxley, was elected to replace his son in the House.
