Surf Buffet Hangs 24 -- Hours, That Is
Buffet May Be Least Expensive On Strip
Rick Garman, Vegas4Visitors.com

So, it's 4 in the morning and you've been up all night gambling, drinking, and going to clubs that would horrify your mother, and you've worked up quite an appetite. Perhaps even a buffet-sized appetite. You're in luck because -- believe it or not -- there is a 24-hour buffet on the Strip -- the Surf Buffet at the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino.

But it's not just good for a 4 a.m mashed potato jones. The Surf Buffet offers some pretty decent food at bargain-basement prices the rest of the time, as well. If you're looking for a cheap buffet or just need to fuel up before another couple hours at the craps table, this is a place to think about.

Go up the escalators from the main casino and you'll find a festively decorated room packed with kitschy beach touches. Check out the colorful umbrellas over the tables or the sea-swept vistas painted on the walls. Of course it's all faux -- there isn't a hint of natural light in the room. But the overall affect is bright and vaguely amusing.

The food stations distributed along one side of the room offer fresh fruit, salads, breakfast items (at certain times of the day), barbecue, Mexican, Chinese, soups, and various miscellaneous entrees. Although menu items change frequently, I doubt you'll ever find anything here that will shock or confuse you. It's all very middle-of-the-road, but if you're looking for adventure in your dining experiences grab a sandwich and go bungee jumping.

The selections are not as vast as you'll find at most buffets -- this is kind of a small place in comparison to most. But I didn't have any trouble finding things to eat and everything we sampled fell into the "fine" or "good" category. Not bad, not great, but somewhere in between. You'll never mistake this for the buffet at Paris or Bellagio, but it's miles better than some of the other inexpensive buffets on the Strip I could name but won't (it rhymes with merkus-merkus).

And inexpensive is the key word. I won't lay down on the train tracks and declare this the cheapest on the Strip, but it has to be close. Breakfast is $6.99, brunch (scrambled eggs at lunchtime apparently qualifies) goes for $7.99, and dinner is $9.99. Oh, and that 4 a.m. pit stop is going be $6.99.

Yes, you can get better buffets for these prices, but you're going to have to travel off the Strip to find them. In the meantime why not go surfing for an inexpensive meal here?
