Tiramisu Pronto

POSTED: 6:11 am EST December 8, 2006

Tiramisu is a popular restaurant dessert, but it always seemed like too much trouble to prepare at home. That is, until I developed this speedy version. So quick, so easy, and so good.

1 (8-ounce) carton whipped cream cheese
¼ cup whipping cream or milk
3 tablespoons sugar, divided
½ cup coffee-flavored liqueur (see Tip)
8 (3/8-inch-thick) slices pound cake
¼ teaspoon sweetened cocoa powder for garnish

Whisk together the cream cheese, whipping cream, and 2 tablespoons of the sugar in a small bowl.

In a separate small bowl, combine the liqueur and the remaining 1 tablespoon sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

For each serving, place 1 slice of cake in each of four 1 ¼-cup ramekins. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of the liqueur mixture over the cake. Spread with about 1 heaping tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture. Repeat layers.

Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or for up to 8 hours. Sprinkle with the cocoa powder sifted through a fine mesh strainer just before serving.
