It is always interesting to get a bit off the track trampled by thousands of tourists. Take your time to discover the beauty of the more hidden spots in Louisiana.

Tunica Hills

Owned by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Tunica Hills offers more than 5,500 acres feature hardwoods, wildlife, rugged hills, cliffs and canyons. In this beautiful surrounding, hunting, trapping, bird-watching, hiking, horseback-riding, bike-riding, sightseeing, photography or scientific study are just some of the refreshing outdoor activities to enjoy while in the area.

Shrine Of Charlene Richard

Charlene Richard was known as a Cajun saint. Thousands of southern Louisiana Catholics make a pilgrimage each year to the grave of this girl, who died of leukemia at age 12 in 1959. Her tomb is festooned with flowers, mementos and notes to Charlene Richard imploring her prayer of intercession in all manner of worldly problems. The shrine can be found on Route 1105 in Eunice, about 80 miles west of Baton Rouge.

Beauregard-Keyes House

The Beauregard-Keyes House was built in 1826 by a wealthy New Orleans auctioneer. This mansion features Doric columns and protruding twin staircases. It was once home to General P.T.G. Beauregard, who occupied the house with several members of his family from 1865 to 1867. From 1944 to 1970, it was the residence of novelist Frances Parkinson Keyes, who wrote a book about the general. Admission for adults is $5, for children from 6-13 years old is are $2 and is free for those younger than 6 years old.

Zam's Swamp tours

Zam's is located on Bayou Boef, in Kraemer, La., just outside New Orleans. Learn more about the swamps and get to see the beautiful unique landscape of the Greater New Orleans, combined with loads of stories and legends around the places you’ll visit. It is a very personal tour and not as big as many others. Often, a short tour to Zam’s private zoo is included where alligators, pythons and huge snapping turtles are kept. Prices vary with group size.

Sci-Port Discovery Center

The Sci-Port Discovery Center is a 92,000-square-foot science and entertainment center on the downtown Shreveport Riverfront, featuring more than 290 science, space science, math and technology exhibits; daily changing programs; an IMAX dome theater and a state-of-the-art laser planetarium.
