BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Former Indiana University basketball coach Kelvin Sampson must cooperate fully with an NCAA investigation if he is to receive payment as part of his separation agreement with the school.A document released on Monday details the agreement between the embattled coach and IU. Sampson and the university parted ways on Friday, weeks after the NCAA said Sampson and/or members of his staff committed five major violations. The 11-page document lays out the amount of money Sampson will get and what he must give in return.
Sampson gets $750,000 for his immediate resignation, $550,000 of which came from an anonymous donor. The remaining $200,000 comes out of the athletic department's budget. In exchange for the cash, Sampson agreed not to sue the university and to fully cooperate with the school and NCAA during the investigation. The agreement also spells out that Sampson not interfere with activities of the basketball team and will refrain from discouraging team members from cooperating in the transition to a new head coach, 6News' Renee Jameson reported.IU has until May 8 to respond to the NCAA allegations.
