INDIANAPOLIS -- The fate of Indianapolis' 2012 Super Bowl hosting hopes rests with a small contingent of representatives from the city and, ultimately, NFL owners. The city should learn whether it has been selected to host the big game by Tuesday evening.
Survey: Will Indy Win?
The Indianapolis group boarded a plane Sunday evening bound for the NFL owners' meeting in Atlanta.Speculation has Indianapolis as the favorite to host the game. The city, which narrowly lost a bid to host the 2011 Super Bowl, is up against Houston and Phoenix this time around.Large binders that detail why Indianapolis should host the game were delivered to team owners for review a little more than a week ago."I think those of us involved feel like we've done everything we can possibly do to be ready," said Mark Miles, chairman of the bid committee. "We had an enormous advantage, and that is that a terrific job was done last year. We put our best foot forward and we showed the league we could do it and we came very close to getting it -- got trumped by a superior economic offer from Dallas."A Super Bowl would bring Indianapolis a minimum of $120 million in direct spending alone, according to estimates.Details of the bid are a closely guarded secret. 6News will have a crew in Atlanta on Monday and Tuesday.
