Milwaukee, WI -- (Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers placed pitcher Jeff Suppan on the 15-day disabled list Monday due to a joint irritation of the right elbow, making room on the roster for newly acquired southpaw C.C. Sabathia.Suppan was roughed up for six runs in just three innings in a no-decision against the Pirates on Sunday. The right-hander sports a 5-6 record with a 4.71 earned run average in 18 starts this season for the up-and-coming Brewers. The 33-year-old veteran is in his second season with Milwaukee, his sixth team in a 14-year career in which he has compiled a 123-119 record with a 4.61 ERA.
The Brewers traded four prospects to obtain the reigning American League Cy Young winner from the Cleveland Indians. They will waste no time getting Sabathia on the mound, as he will likely start against the Rockies on Tuesday night. Sabathia and Ben Sheets now form one of the strongest 1-2 punches in the front-end of the rotation in the National League. Sabathia struggled at the season's outset and is 6-8 with a 3.83 ERA in 18 starts for the Indians this season, but he has posted a 2.16 ERA since April 22.
