Celebrities To Rev Up 500 Festival Parade

Mario Lopez, Melora Hardin Among Attendees

The racecar drivers won't be the only famous faces in this year's 500 Festival Parade and other events leading up to the Indianapolis 500.

Organizers on Tuesday announced the first wave of celebrities who are planning on riding in the race weekend event.

"Extra" TV host and "Dancing With The Stars" champion Mario Lopez will join in the festivities, along with actress Melora Hardin, best known for her role as snooty Jan on NBC's "The Office."

Indiana's own Miss America Katie Stam will also ride in the parade before singing "America the Beautiful" ahead of the race.

Veteran sportscaster Dick Vitale will lead the parade as grand marshal.

Actor Josh Duhamel, who stars in the upcoming action movie "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," will drive the pace car at the race.

Rapper Lil' Kim and dancer Derek Hough, of "Dancing With The Stars" fame, said on ABC's "Good Morning America" Wednesday that they also plan to be in Indianapolis for some events.

More celebrities are expected to be announced as the race draws closer.

The parade will be held on May 23 with more than 300,000 spectators expected to line the two-mile route to get a glimpse of the celebrities, the 33 starting drivers and more than 80 specialty units, floats, marching bands and entertainment groups, giant inflatable balloons and costumed characters.
