INDIANAPOLIS -- Anticipation is building as the 93rd running of the Indianapolis 500 approaches Sunday. There were plenty of people at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Wednesday to take part in Community Day, where a plethora of events kept spectators occupied, 6News' Jennifer Carmack reported. The weather couldn't have been more perfect for children to take advantage of the Kids Zone, where they can get firsthand experience behind the wheel and sport a race tattoo.
In the plaza, drivers were set up to sign autographs and RTV6 personalities manned a booth to talk to visitors.Spectators were allowed in the track area to kiss the famous yard of bricks, check out some vintage cars and take a lap around the track. The day gave families a chance to get a close look at just about every aspect of the Indianapolis 500."We've always loved listening to the race and watching it," said race fan Jessica Tanksley. "To be able to bring my son and getting him into it just means the world to me. I've lived in Indiana all my life, so the race means a lot."Community Day runs until 6 p.m. It costs $7 to get in. Children age 6 and under are free.
