Indianapolis Colts 2009 Training Camp Preview
(Sports Network) -REPORT DATE: Aug. 2nd SITE: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, IN
CAMP OBJECTIVES: The Colts' first training camp under head coach Jim Caldwell should be an interesting one, as respected coaches like Tony Dungy, Tom Moore, Howard Mudd, and defensive coordinator Ron Meeks are either gone or have been marginalized, and Marvin Harrison will not be a member of the team for the first time since 1995 as well. Still, there is not a lot of turnover on the two-deep as a whole, so camp will be about learning to respond to new voices as much as anything else. Among the players to watch will be rookie running back Donald Brown (UConn), who will challenge incumbent Joseph Addai for carries, and second-round defensive tackle Filo Moala (USC), who looks like a day-one starter for the team's light front seven. On new coordinator Larry Coyer's defense, the word throughout August should be "preservation." As the health of end Dwight Freeney and safety Bob Sanders goes, so goes this unit. PRESEASON SCHEDULE: Aug 14 - vs. Minnesota, 7:30 PM Aug 20 - vs. Philadelphia, 8:00 PM Aug 29 - at Detroit, 1:00 PM Sep 3 - at Cincinnati, 7:30 PM
