Lexington, KY -- (Sports Network) - Hambletonian winner Muscle Hill provided more proof on Saturday that he is the best standardbred in training this year. The three-year-old trotter, with Brian Sears driving, captured the $600,000 Kentucky Futurity at The Red Mile.Muscle Hill, trained by Greg Peck, won the final jewel in trotting's Triple Crown in a time of 1:51 1/5 for the mile. The colt won his elimination heat as the 1-20 favorite. Saturday's two victories means that Muscle Hill has won 19 consecutive starts, including all 11 races this year. In his career the colt has earned more than $2.97 million with $2.15 million in 2009.
"This was a special day," said Peck. "It's really up there with the best moments of this year." Just like in his elimination race, Muscle Hill paid $2.10 to win with no place or show wagering. Finishing second in the Kentucky Futurity final was Explosive Matter followed by Tom Cango, Broadway Bistro, Neighsay Hanover, Dr Mcdreamy, Hot Shot Blue Chip and Big Bikkies, who was the winner of the first elimination heat. The two elimination heats each had a purse of $108,000. Muscle Hill, number one in the current Hambletonian Society poll, failed to sweep the Triple Crown series this year when he did not participate in the Yonkers Trot which was won by Judge Joe, who was held out of the Kentucky Futurity. Muscle Hill is owned by Jerry Silva, TLP Stable, Southwind Farm and Muscle Hill Racing.
