The Fever is building in Indianapolis, but it's a malady that fans are happy to have.

The Indiana Fever host Phoenix on Wednesday in game 4 of a best-of-five series in the WNBA Finals, and if Indianapolis wins, the team will be league champions, 6News' Julie Pursley reported.

Fever fans were evident at Conseco Fieldhouse several hours before the big game, buying tickets and gear and grabbing signs.

Players were revved up for what could be the biggest game of their career.

"There's a sense of urgency here. Everyone is excited," said Fever guard Shay Murphy. "You can feel it. I couldn't sleep last night. I wanted to get here ASAP."

After attracting a standing room only crowd for game 3, the team hopes fans will pack the arena for Wednesday's game.

"We hope to have Conseco Fieldhouse packed and use that to our advantage," said guard Katie Douglas.

As players warmed up a bit in a shootaround Wednesday morning, fans were at the box office to get tickets for the game.

"We're just so excited. We have been fans since they came to town," said Carol Jo Burns. "We're just overwhelmed."

"I definitely had to make this final game," said fan Phillip McKay. "I made sure I will be here to support them."

Fans were also eagerly snapping up Fever merchandise.

"People have been coming in," said Donna Owens, of retailer Home Court. "We open the store at 10 o'clock, but we opened it this morning at 9:45, and they were waiting for us to open the store."

Players expect a raucous hometown crowd will help propel them to victory and give Indianapolis a championship title.

"We've always talked about how great our fans are and just the support they bring us," said Fever forward Tamika Catchings. "It's been a whole other level, and we're expecting great things tonight."

As of early Wednesday afternoon, there were some balcony seats left, but they were going quickly.

The game is set for 7:30 p.m. If Indianapolis does not win, game 5 is in Phoenix on Friday.
