NCAA Game Summary - Valparaiso At Ball State

(Sports Network) - Six players, including all five starters, reached double figures for Ball State, as the Cardinals topped the Valparaiso Crusaders, 88-78, in a non-league matchup at Worthen Arena.

Jarrod Jones led the way with 19 points and six boards for BSU (1-0), while Malik Perry tallied 17 points and seven rebounds. Jauwan Scaife added 14 points, and Brawley Chisholm had 12 points and five assists. Terrence Watson and Randy Davis scored 11 points apiece and they combined for 15 rebounds as well.

Brandon Wood led Valpo (0-1) and all scorers with 25 points on 9-of-23 shooting from the floor. Cory Johnson put forth 21 points and nine boards, while Brandon McPherson and Howard Little chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Cardinals shot a sizzling 64.0 percent from the floor in the opening half, as they took a 42-38 lead to the locker room.

In the second half, BSU made 25 free throws to secure the 10-point victory.

The Cardinals outscored the Crusaders, 32-17, at the foul line and that made the difference tonight.
