Thoughts On The Indianapolis 500: Stephanie White

No stranger to competition, the Indiana Fever's Stephanie White says she is amazed by what car racers go through to perform at the level they do.

White, an Indiana native who won a NCAA women's basketball championship with Purdue in 1999, went to Indianapolis 500 time trials when she was in college.

"I remember it was so intense," White said. "When you're out there and you're going so fast, and you have split seconds to make decisions, and just seeing what those guys put their bodies and their minds through every single day, it's just amazing.

"I can't believe that they can ... do that for so long in a career."

White hasn't attended the Indianapolis 500 race itself. She said the WNBA season has prevented her from doing so in recent years.

"But it's the greatest spectacle in racing, and it's a great thing to be from Indiana and have that kind of a sense of pride," she said.
