Indianapolis Colts safety Mike Doss was sentenced Monday to 40 hours of community service and ordered to pay $1,036 in fines and court costs for a gunfire incident in Akron, according to the office of the Akron municipal court clerk.

Doss pleaded guilty to charges of carrying a concealed deadly weapon and discharging a firearm within the city limits, ABC affiliate WEWS reported. Authorities said he fired up to six shots in the nightclub district of downtown Akron on May 29, injuring no one.

Doss also was given a suspended 180-day jail sentence for the deadly weapon charge and a suspended 60-day jail sentence for the discharge count. He won't have to serve the jail terms if he stays out of trouble for one year, the clerk's office said.

In court on Monday, Doss apologized for the incident.

"I am truly sorry for my lack in judgment," he said.

A grand jury had been scheduled to consider the charges Monday, but that step was bypassed after the plea.

Charges of inducing panic and obstructing official business were dismissed, the clerk's office said.

Colts President Bill Polian has said he would announce a team punishment for Doss after consulting with the NFL.
