INDIANAPOLIS -- Seven Lawrence North High School cheerleaders were kept from their football team's homecoming game Friday on suspicion that they drank alcohol before the contest, a school official said.Acting on a tip before the game, school police approached some Lawrence North cheerleaders to see whether they had been drinking. Breath tests were given, and seven cheerleaders either admitted to drinking alcohol or failed the breath test, according to Lawrence Township Assistant Superintendent Duane Hodgin. The seven were not allowed to cheerlead during Lawrence North's 28-21 victory over Ben Davis High School.
Parents were called to take the seven home. The seven will not be allowed to cheerlead for the rest of the football season and they could face up to 10 days of suspension from school, RTV6's Ericka Flye reported.Hodgin said the seven were sent home out of concern for their safety and the safety of others at the game.
