NASCAR star Kyle Busch is ready to give the Indianapolis 500 a try, but first, he wants to win his a Sprint Cup Championship.

In an interview with 6 Sports, the 25-year-old Las Vegas-native said, “If I win the Sprint Cup Championship, I’ll go run Indy, but I have to win the championship first. So, if anyone wants to put my name on the check and the trophy now, then I’ll be at Indy next year.”

Busch’s best championship finish with Joe Gibbs Racing was fifth in 2007.

At the very least, he would like to give the IZOD IndyCar series a try one day.

“Maybe a little bit,” he said when asked if he’d like to hop into an open-wheeled car. “I’m looking forward to trying Indy cars at some point.”

Busch has the most momentum heading into the final two races of the season before NASCAR’s Chase for the Championship.

Last weekend, he became the first to win three NASCAR races in one weekend with victories in the truck, Nationwide and Cup series.

His win Saturday night moved him up to third in points, 351 behind series leader Kevin Harvick.

Busch also expressed his displeasure with NASCAR’s decision to cut purses in the Nationwide series.

The plan is to cut the payouts by as much as 20 percent next season. It’ll be the second consecutive year the purse will be reduced in that series.

“That’s (messed) up. I mean, you can’t pay purses if there aren’t people in the stands,” he said.

At several tracks, attendance at NASCAR races has been down. At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, attendance for this year’s Brickyard 400 was estimated at 140,000, down considerably from years past.
