INDIANAPOLIS - Rumors are swirling on ESPN and locally that Butler University plans to leave the Atlantic 10 for a new conference, but a university spokesman said the reports are not accurate.
ESPN reported Thursday that the Catholic 7 will be taking on the Big East name and Butler planned to join the conference.
Butler University spokesman Marc Allan said the media reports are inaccurate.
"The story is not accurate and there is no agreement for Butler to join the new league," Allan told RTV6. "We are proud members of the A10 and focused on our big games with VCU this weekend."
Fellow Atlantic 10 team Xavier is mentioned in the ESPN report as another team to fill the new league.
ESPN reports an early exit from the A10 would cost each school $2 million.
