INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Colts linebacker D'Qwell Jackson has been suspended without pay for the team's next four games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.
The NFL issued the following statement on Tuesday:
D’Qwell Jackson of the Indianapolis Colts has been suspended without pay for the team’s next four games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.
Jackson’s suspension begins immediately. He will be eligible to return to the Colts’ active roster on Monday, January 2 following the team’s January 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jackson left Monday night's game against the Jets during the fourth quarter with a neck injury. He and Chuck Pagano were both placed under the league's concussion protocol after the game.
This isn't the first issue the Colts have had with Jackson, who has started every game since he was signed in 2014.
Earlier this year, Jackson was found guilty of assaulting a pizza delivery driver in Washington D.C. in 2015. He was given a minimal sentence from the judge and did not miss any games in 2015 or 2016 because of the case.
The victim in that case filed a civil suit against Jackson seeking $1.5 million in damages. The status of that case was not immediately available.
Jackson played for the University of Maryland before being selected by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2006 NFL draft. He played for the team through the 2013 season. He was signed by the Colts as a free agent in March 2014.
