INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts announced Tuesday that they have released cornerback Antonio Cromartie.

Cromartie signed with the Colts as a free agent in August, the latest of the team's moves to patch their ailing defense with veteran talent.

Through his four games, he notched 14 tackles and two passes defensed. Cromartie had a tough time staying on the field, with multiple injuries through the first four weeks of the season that sidelined him for different periods of time during games.

Cromartie reacted to the news on his Instagram account, saying that God has a different plan for him.

Cromartie is the only Colts player to have taken a knee during the national anthem this season as a form of protest to call attention to the country's racial divide. He kneeled at the last two Colts games, one at home and the other in London, during the pre-game anthem.
