INDIANAPOLIS - A parody of the DirecTV "Football On Your Phone" commercial put together by Decatur Central High School students has attracted attention in the buildup to Peyton Manning's return to Indianapolis.
Manning and his brother, Eli, starred in the original commercial, a rap video that extolled the virtues of watching NFL games on your phone.
Students Alec DeFord, Cameron Buck, Jayden Moore and Haiden Widener, along with a teacher, came up with "Peyton's Coming Home," paying homage to Manning, who will lead the Denver Broncos for Sunday's game.
"I've always been a really big Peyton Manning fan," Widener said. "Whenever he left, the whole Indianapolis was sad about it. Everybody was upset."
In the video, the boys pretend to be Peyton and Eli Manning.
"It was really fun just because me and Cameron have been best buds growing up, and just being able to be those two funny guys on camera like we've wanted to all our life, somewhat like our dream come true," DeFord said.
The video took weeks to produce, and feedback has been largely positive. The video had attracted more than 40,000 views as of Oct. 15.
Decatur Central has a history of producing videos that have done well online, including a "Single Ladies" clip that has been viewed more than 193,000 times.
"I've been a part of all three videos," Widener said. "Each video we do gets bigger and bigger."
The students said they hope Peyton appreciates the video.
"It's kind of cool that we can make him feel like he's still welcome here," Widener said.
