Former Indianapolis Colts running back Trent Richardson has been arrested in Alabama on a domestic violence charge, according to AL.com.

Police responded to the Hyatt Place Hotel in Hoover, Alabama on reports of yelling from one of the guest rooms.

Richardson, 26, and a female were identified as the source of the yelling. Hoover police said they had been arguing throughout the evening and at some point it turned violent.

The female sustained scratches and bruising injuries to her face.

Hoover police Capt. Gregg Rector told AL.com that Richardson was cooperative and was arrested without incident.

Richardson is charged with third-degree domestic violence.

The former Alabama running back was drafted third overall by the Cleveland Browns after winning the National Championship with the Crimson Tide.

His rookie season in 2012 was promising, when he picked up 950 yards and 11 touchdowns, all after coming off two injuries that plagued his draft workouts and preseason.

Richardson was traded to the Colts in exchange for a first round pick in 2013 after the Colts lost RB Vick Ballard to a season ending injury. He struggled with the team and was eventually demoted, and even fumbled on his first career postseason carry against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card round.

He was perceived as out of shape going into the 2014 season, in which he split carries with Ahmad Bradshaw, but was ultimately demoted totally and named inactive for the Colts first two playoff games. He was then suspended when he missed a walk through for the AFC Championship due to a "family emergency" he didn't alert the team about.

Richardson signed with the Oakland Raiders for the next year, but missed camp after a bout with pneumonia and was ultimately released.

He then had a short stint with the Baltimore Ravens in 2016, but was waived in August.

He is not currently signed by any NFL team.
