INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White will leave the WNBA for the head coaching job with the Vanderbilt University women's basketball program.
White's move was reported by ESPN, who will lose its own Carolyn Peck, a Vanderbilt alum, as she leaves the network to become White's assistant head coach.
White was named the Fever's head coach in September 2014, making her the youngest coach in the league. She led the team to its second WNBA Finals, losing in a best-of-five series to the Minnesota Lynx.
Prior to coaching, White was a high school and college standout player at Purdue University, where she was named National College Player of the Year, Indiana NCAA Woman of the Year and Big Ten Conference Player of the Year.
White's departure comes as the team is also preparing to lose star forward Tamika Catchings, who will retire after the 2016 Summer Olympics.
White is expected to join Vanderbilt's coaching staff at the end of the Fever's season.
