INDIANAPOLIS – Joel Cornette, the former Butler basketball standout who suddenly passed away in 2016, will be inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame in September.

Cornette, who helped lead the basketball team to a Sweet 16, died at age 35 Aug. 15 due to natural causes.

During his time at Butler, Cornette scored more than 1,000 points and played on the Horizon League All-Defensive Team in three of his four years.

After college, he worked as a coach for the team during the 2006-07 season, before joining the University of Iowa's staff. He had been a player-agent since 2012.

Cornette was one of seven people that will be formally inducted September 15 during a ceremony held on Butler’s campus.
