BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A former Indiana University football player has been arrested in a drug deal that ended in an armed robbery, police said.

Damarlo Belcher, 24, was arrested Friday in his hometown of Fort Wayne on a preliminary charge of armed robbery.

The incident happened Oct. 30 at 1116 N. Walnut St. in Bloomington, police said.

Belcher went to the home under the guise of buying marijuana, but then pulled a gun at robbed the dealer of nearly $800 in cash and pot, police said.

Belcher later admitted to his role in the robbery, police said.

Belcher, a wide receiver who led the Big 10 in receptions in 2010, was dismissed from the team as a senior in 2011 after violating team rules, IU said.
