The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is relaxing its cooler rules ahead of expected record heat at Sunday’s race.

Coolers larger than 14 inches by 14 inches technically aren’t allowed inside the track, and many fan had to leave theirs behind on Carb Day.

But IMS spokesman Doug Boles told RTV6 early Sunday that because temperatures were expected to soar into the 90s, the rules wouldn’t be quite as strict.

“If you can carry it with one hand, you can bring it into the track,” he said.

The cooler limit is meant to ensure that what fans bring in will fit underneath seats and won't take up too much space.

Track officials said 78 misting stations will be set up around the track and several cooling buses will be parked at the north and south end of the infield to help keep race fans cool.
