A few months after James Hinchcliffe’s life-threatening crash in 2015, he posted a photo on Instagram with a bloody shirt (fake blood) that read “I’m fine.”

Too soon?

Who would’ve thought it would come back up a year later.

After finishing third in Saturday’s Angie’s List Grand Prix, Hinchcliffe was on his way up to the victory podium when he saw three people screaming and cheering -- wearing bloody “I’m fine.” shirts.

He pointed, yelled and ran over to them. Hinchcliffe signed their shirts and took a selfie with the trio.

“It was the coolest thing,” Victoria King, one of the people who wore the shirts, said. “He pointed at us earlier when they were doing driver introductions. It was cool.”

King, Rob Nichols and Brian King said they’re big fans of Hinchcliffe.

“I’ve hung out with him a bunch of times at different events,” Nichols said. “He’s a really nice, down-to-earth guy.”

While their shirts -- bought online -- may have been a little expensive, there’s no way they could put a price on the photo and memory with Hinchcliffe.

“It was definitely worth it,” Victoria King said.
