INDIANAPOLIS -- Sage Karam crashed into the wall of Turn 1 after trying to hold on to position on the lower part of the turn on Lap 94 of the Indianapolis 500.

Karam tried to hang on after his car started sliding, but ultimately hit the wall in Turn 1 and hugged the wall, striking it a few more times into Turn 2.

Karam got out of the car under his own power, and was checked and released from the medical center.

Defending Indy 500 champion Juan Pablo Montoya was forced out when he crashed earlier in the race in Turn 2.
