INDIANAPOLIS - One of the biggest racing names in Indianapolis has been targeted in a phony check writing racket, prompting a police investigation.

The Andretti Auto Sport and Holding Company on Zionsville Road reported to Indianapolis police Thursday that it discovered three recent pre-printed checks had been written in an attempt to pull money from the team's Chase bank account.

The checks amounted to a total of $2,575, according to the police report.

The team's financial controller told police that the same sort of scam has targeted their accounts in the past.

Call 6 Investigators contacted the team's front office for details, but no response was immediately received.

No arrests have been reported, but police have copies of the checks as their investigation gets under way.
