INDIANAPOLIS -- Rookie Alexander Rossi earned more than $2.5 million Sunday for his win at the Indianapolis 500.
The American drove the joint Bryan Herta Autosport/Andretti Autosport #98 car to a historic victory at the race's 100th running.

For his win, Rossi earned $2,548,743 from an overall purse of $13,273,253.
Last year's winner, Juan Pablo Montoya, earned $2.45 million.

Rossi was the first rookie winner since Helio Castroneves in 2001, and the first American-born rookie champion since Louis Meyer in 1928.
