It's the morning of May 29.
You've got your cooler, your Indianapolis 500 tickets and your binoculars. You're ready for the race.
You walk out the door, get in your car just in time and -- hit traffic.
A nightmare scenario for many Indy 500 fans, no doubt.
That's why IMS President Doug Boles is encouraging -- no, stressing -- that fans leave at least two hours earlier than they usually would for this year's race.
ROAD TO 100 | 100 Stories in 100 Days
Gates will open at the Speedway this year at 6 a.m. There will be plenty to do when you arrive. Here are some ideas:
- Visit the the IMS Museum. It will open at 6 a.m., featuring a "50 years of Team Penske in Racing" exhibit.
- The Midway will be open at 6 a.m. It will have stations from PlayStation, Mattel, New Era, Coca-Cola and others. In case you have children who are early birds, the Kids Zone will also be available.
- Be on TV. Sportscenter will be taping an episode from 8-9 a.m., so get a good spot to be on national TV.
- Jam out. Watch the rolling stage circle the track beginning at 10 a.m. New York-based a capella group Naturally 7 will be playing.
- Watch RTV6 for all our coverage of the race beginning at 5 a.m., leading all the up until the green flag.
