INDIANAPOLIS -- On April 19, 1995, domestic terrorists blew up the Oklahoma City Federal Building.
Understandably, it overshadowed the announcement that same day from Senator Richard Lugar that he was running for president.
Hoosiers were just getting used to calling the former Hoosier Dome, the RCA Dome thanks to a new sponsorship.
And the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was riding high after a successful inaugural Brickyard 400, which saw Indiana favorite Jeff Gordon take the checkered flag in a historic NASCAR moment.
The 79th Indianapolis 500 was filled with fireworks.
Team Penske couldn't even qualify a car, despite dominating the race the year before.
But that was okay with Jacques Villeneuve who was looking to improve on his previous year's second place finish.
Villeneuve actually led the race twice, before late in the race, he found himself behind leader Scott Goodyear after the 9th caution.
Goodyear was black-flagged for passing the pace car on a restart, but refused to come in.
His final five laps were not scored.
Villeneuve took the lead and drove to victory in only his second 500. The only Canadian ever to win the race.
