Roger Penske, one of the most prolific names in Indy 500 history, will drive the pace car for the Indianapolis 500 in May.

With more than 15 Indy 500 wins, Penske's auto team, Penske Racing, is one of the most prolific teams in motorsports.

Penske Racing is celebrating its 50th year in racing in 2016.

Previous Indy 500 Pace Car drivers have been: Jeff Gordon, Jim Harbaugh, Lance Armstrong and Colin Powell.

Donald Trump was going to drive the Pace Car in 2011, but dropped out after an online petition against the move grew in popularity.

IndyCar will make an official announcement on Monday.

IMS President Doug Boles released the following statement about the decision:

“We’re very excited about our Chevrolet pace car driver for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil. It is critical to IMS and our fans that the pace car driver for the Indianapolis 500 represent the importance of this event and understand what it means to be leading the field to the green for the 100th time. Our selection embodies those requirements completely. We are looking forward to unveiling this year’s pace car and making the driver announcement formal on Monday afternoon at IMS.”
