INDIANAPOLIS -- Team Penske driver Simon Pagenaud took the pole for the Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis on Friday with a new event record.
Pagenaud set a new event record of 1:08.6868 in his Chevrolet.

The road race is in its third year as the kickoff for the IndyCar racing season in Indianapolis that culminates with the Indianapolis 500.
Pagenaud won the inaugural race in 2014 while driving for Sam Schmidt Motorsports.
His Penske teammate Will Power won last year.
