IU loses Elston for up to eight weeks

Senior re-injures knee at Hoosier Hysteria

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -    Indiana University's basketball team looks forward to living up to the high expectations set for the upcoming season.  But they'll do so, for a while, without senior Derek Elston.  Sources told rtv6 Sports Director Dave Furst, that Elston recently re-injured his left knee, tearing the meniscus.  Elston suffered the same injury during his junior year at Tipton High School.

The 6-9 senior from Tipton, Ind., averaged 4 points and 2 rebounds last season.  He, and fellow seniors Jordan Hulls and Christian Watford were looking forward to living up to their Number 1 preseason ranking by USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll.

Elston will begin rehab on his left knee immediately and could miss up to eight weeks.  His return would likely happen just before the start of the Big Ten season, December 31, at Iowa.

IU's first exhibition game takes place November 1 against Indiana Wesleyan.  Their season opener is set for November 9, against Bryant.
