Lauren Holiday has surgery to remove brain tumor

Lauren Holiday, former U.S. soccer star, Indianapolis native and Ben Davis High School graduate, unerwent surgery at Duke University Hospital in North Carolina to remove a benign brain tumor.

Holiday, who was diagnosed with the operable tumor while pregnant, gave birth to a healthy baby girl the last week of September.

In the interest of the health of both mother and baby, Lauren's brain surgery was scheduled to take place about six weeks after delivery.

Lauren's agent confirmed Sunday that the surgery had indeed taken place.

Lauren's teammates, friends and fans took to Twitter to offer prayers and words of support prior to her surgery.

Holiday's husband, New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday, announced in early September he would take indefinite leave from the NBA to care for his wife.

Lauren Holiday, who retired from soccer last year, was among the world's most respected players in the women's game during a career highlighted by Olympic gold medals with the U.S. national team in 2008 and 2012, and FIFA World Cup title in 2015.
