WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Just when you thought Purdue's football season couldn't get any worse...

A sinkhole has opened up in the south end zone of Ross-Ade Stadium, according to the university's turf crew Twitter account.

A main line broke over the weekend with a pump running, leading to the sinkhole.

The sinkhole may not be the worst thing to happen to Purdue over the past week. On Saturday, the team lost to Maryland by 43 points.

The staff has less than two weeks to get the field repaired for another game. The Boilermakers' next home game is Oct. 15 against Iowa.

If the sinkhole gets bigger and swallows the field, Purdue could just pretend it never had a football team this year, and start fresh in 2017. At least, maybe that's what some fans and alumni think.
