Indianapolis native and legendary Pacers player George McGinnis was elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Saturday.

Officials at the Hall of Fame said McGinnis was elected as part of the Hall of Fame Class of 2017.

McGinnis began his basketball journey at Washington High School and was named Mr. Basketball in 1969. He then went on to play at Indiana University.

In 1971 McGinnis signed with the Pacers and played for four seasons where he helped lead the team to championships in 1972 and 1973. He was also named co-MVP during the 1974-1975 season.

In total, he spent five seasons in the NBA and retired in 1982. The Pacers retired McGinnis’ No. 30 jersey number.
