INDIANAPOLIS - Sunday was a great day for sports enthusiasts in and around Indianapolis.
The entertainment went from day to night, and for the first time since 2004, the Racers met the Pacers.
The Indianapolis 500 coincided with a Pacers home game Sunday evening.
Game 3 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse was the first home game in the nail-biting series between the Pacers and the Miami Heat.
“It’s crazy, I haven’t seen it like this in forever. I work downtown and I love it. I love it. That’s why I came here after the race because I just wanted to see all the Pacers fans,” said Kristin Tero.
Fans felt confident the Pacers could take the series against the Heat.
“The Heat have All-Stars. That’s all they have are All-Stars, they don’t play like a team, they rely on a select few. The Pacers, they play as a team, they’re going to take it,” said fan James Sousa.
Some fans didn’t mind all of the new fans jumping on the bandwagon during the playoffs.
“It feels good. It’s nice to see the new people come in, but it’s also redemption for the people who have been cheering for the Pacers through the years,” said fan Paul Potrzebowski.
Fans said the way the Pacers were performing this playoff series was a boost of confidence.
“They haven’t been this good literally since 1993. You know, that is a great thing to say about the Pacers right now, they’re checking LeBron perfectly. If you force LeBron to the right, he’s not going to have a shot,” another fan said.
Game 4 is set for Tuesday in Indianapolis and fans said they are ready.
