INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird is stepping down, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports.

Kevin Pritchard, currently the team's general manager, will take over basketball operations.

Bird will continue to work as a consultant, but the Orlando Magic have been "asking around about him," Wojnarowski said.

Bird, an Hoosier who attended Indiana State University, was the Pacers president from 2003-2012 before leaving for a year. He returned in 2013 as the team's president.

Bird was in New York City this week, making a bid for Indianapolis to host the 2021 NBA All-Star Game. He drove a special retro-fitted IndyCar down 5th Avenue.

The Pacers would not comment on the report about Bird other than to say he will hold a press conference on Monday.
