Peyton Manning, who was known for his community involvement during his time in Indianapolis, is following suit in his new city of Denver after Friday's mass shooting.

The new Denver Broncos quarterback spoke one-on-one by phone on Saturday afternoon with several patients at the Medical Center of Aurora after the shooting, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Fifty-eight people were wounded after a gunman clad in riot gear opened fire in a crowded theater early Friday where "The Dark Knight Rises" was being shown. Twelve people have died in the massacre.

Several of Manning's Broncos teammates have also visited area hospitals to talk with the shooting victims.

The four-time MVP signed with the Broncos this year after missing the Colts' 2011 season due to injury.
