Ex-Wedding Planner Says He'll Refund Clients

Brides Accuse Him Of Taking Payment, Not Providing Services

POSTED: 8:51 pm EDT July 11, 2006

A wedding planner accused of not providing services and products for which he accepted money said Tuesday he will refund several people.

James "Von" Belk said he stopped taking new customers in June and owes about $50,000 to several brides.

"I just got in way over my head and didn't even realize it," Belk told Call 6 for Help's Rafael Sanchez. "One event would pay for the next event as they would come in. I was robbing Peter to pay Paul and didn't even realize it for two years."

Clients of Belk complained about him to Call 6 last month.

Belk said he is interviewing for jobs outside the wedding planning industry. He said he has only $10 to his name and has no hidden bank accounts.

"I don't know how long it's going to take, but they need to get their money back," Belk said.
