INDIANAPOLIS -- After the Indiana Supreme Court ruled that the BMV can reject certain requests for personalized license plates, the program will resume on Friday.
If you need to register a new vehicle or renew registration, you can personalize your plates online. If you already have up-to-date plates, you'll need to visit a license branch.
November's unanimous ruling says BMV limits on what you can request on a license plate does not violate free speech rights -- calling the license plate government speech.

The case began when the BMV rejected a request from a Greenwood police officer who wanted "Oink" on his license plate.
“I am pleased that we are able to return this very popular program to the public” Kent Abernathy, the commissioner of the Indiana BMV, said.
