POSTED: 1:06 pm EDT July 7, 2008

(Sports Network) - Third-seeded Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova and fifth-seeded Czech Lucie Safarova were among Monday's first-round winners at the $175,000 Gaz de France Grand Prix tennis tournament.

Pironkova leveled Serbian wild card Teodora Mircic 6-3, 6-1, while Safarova whipped Hungary's own Kyra Nagy 6-2, 6-2 on the red clay at Romai Tennis Academy.

Two other results saw Israeli Tzipora Obziler handle Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru 6-3, 6-2 and German Anna-Lena Groenefeld ground Hungarian wild card Palma Kiraly 6-0, 6-4.

This week's top seeds are Hungarian favorite Agnes Szavay and France's Alize Cornet. Argentine Gisela Dulko, who is not defending her title this week, topped Romanian Sorana Cirstea in last year's finale.

The 2008 Budapest champion will collect $28,000.
