In Connecticut, there’s family fun to be had everywhere from Mystic Seaport to New Haven. Here’s a sample of what is available.

Connecticut Coastal Kayaking
Connecticut’s large tidal rivers, smaller freshwater rivers, marshes are perfect for kayaking. Launch from Lyme, Conn., and explore tranquil nooks and observe coastal birds and wildlife.

Annual Chrysanthemum Festival
Every fall for three weekends Bristol, Conn., celebrates the Chrysanthemum. Festivities begin with the crowning of Miss Mum and continue with a parade, food fest, carnival, car show and Oktoberfest.

Apple Harvest Festival
The annual Apple Harvest Festival in Southington, Conn., is fun for the whole family. It takes place for three weekends each fall and features an apple fritter-eating contest, bed races, carnival, live entertainment and local food vendors.

Chowderfest
Each October the coastal Connecticut town of Mystic Seaport hosts Chowderfest, a chance for residents and visitors to indulge in delicious chowder, seafood specialties and seasonal deserts. Had enough to eat, check out story time at the Children’s Museum or climb aboard for a steamboat ride.

Shore Line Trolley Museum
The Shore Line Trolley Museum lets visitors experience how Connecticut residents traveled before cars and buses. The working vintage trolley cars tour Greater New Haven and have been in continuous operation for more than 100 years.
