Paul Poteet's Alter-Bio

Paul Poteet didn't mean to be on television. A life-long interest in weather intersected with an '80s booth announcing gig at Channel 4 in Indianapolis.

Poteet brought a radio background to this first job in front of the camera. He has been on the air in some form or another in Indianapolis since 1982, with stops along the way at WFBQ, WNAP, WNDE, and WTPI.

Poteet was born in a small town, and lived in a small town, but has yet to be offered a Chevy truck jingle-writing deal.

From Andrews, Indiana he moved to Fort Wayne as a teenage deejay, and met his future wife on the job at a radio station. She has since retired from the air, and has also retired her first name. She is referred to as "Mrs. Poteet" during his countless, seemingly endless stories on the air between forecasts.

Poteet joined "Good Morning Indiana" at the start of 1995, doing the traffic reports. Word leaked out about his meteorology background, and he moved over to the Storm Team 6 Tracking Center at the start of 1997.

After studying rush hours for about 4 years, Paul spent another 3 years formally studying the rules and laws of meteorology, earning certification from Mississippi State University. Truly, no one has done more to bring Traffic & Weather Together.

Radio listeners trying to get away from his work have to tune carefully past five different stations who use Paul as a source of forecast information and a part of their morning drive time shows. He can be heard on his flagship station Z99.5 WZPL, and also Newstalk 1430 in Indianapolis. You'll also have to put up with him on Hit Country 102.5 WMDH in Muncie/New Castle/Anderson, Classic Hits 106.9 WXXC in Marion, and WQME 98.7FM in Anderson.

Poteet has twice been named "Best Indianapolis Weatherman" by the readers of NUVO Magazine, who may have been confused by the weatherman's constant personal ads in the back of the magazine. He has two teenage sons and about five years left on his mortgage.
