INDIANAPOLIS -- An outbreak of severe weather is possible from Friday through early Saturday across much of Indiana as a strong storm system nears the state. The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center placed a portion of Indiana in a moderate risk zone for severe weather Friday.Violent thunderstorms that rocked portions of the Plains and Midwest on Thursday are expected to spread southeastward toward Indiana.
With ample moisture in place and strong winds in the upper atmosphere, any storms that form will have the potential to pack large hail, strong winds and tornadoes -- some of which could be strong and long-lived.Some storms will be possible early in the day on Friday, but the main action is expected to hold off until later in the day and linger into the early part of Saturday. The forecast could change significantly before the storm system moves in. It currently appears that areas from Indianapolis to the northwestern part of the state stand the greatest risk of seeing severe weather. The outlook will be updated Friday before the worst of the weather targets the state.Temperatures in the 80s and relatively high humidity will help fuel the storms.Indiana has been fortunate to have had a relatively quiet spring severe weather-wise so far, but other states have not fared as well.Stay with Storm Team 6 and TheIndyChannel.com for the latest severe weather information.
