Another Dose Of Winter's Wrath Bound For Indiana

Snow, Sleet, Freezing Rain Moving In

POSTED: 7:11 am EST January 9, 2009
UPDATED: 1:42 pm EST January 9, 2009

Another nasty mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected to overspread central Indiana early Saturday morning and linger through much of the day

A winter weather advisory is in effect through Saturday evening as a storm system moves southeast of the state, throwing moisture into the area with temperatures at or below freezing.

Freezing rain and sleet are expected to be the predominant forms of precipitation when the mix begins Saturday morning.

Temperatures are expected to be slightly below freezing, causing whatever falls to stick in the trees and on the roads.

During the day on Saturday, the mix is expected to change to snow as the storm system moves away, wrapping colder air into the region.

As much as 3 inches of snow is expected in the Indianapolis area, but it's likely the snow accumulation will be less than that.

All of the northern two-thirds of Indiana is expected to see some type of wintry weather, but areas to the south may escape with primarily rain.

The Bloomington and Columbus areas are not in the winter weather advisory, but they could still see some wintry weather, depending on how much cold air wraps into the storm system.

A large Arctic blast is expected to invade Indiana next week, with at least a couple more chances of snow.
